Coaching pre/newly qualified, lawyers in an entrepreneurial mindset
The Client
A London law firm sought my services the help with developing their team of Junior Lawyers through coaching & workshops.
The firm sought a collegiate and high performance culture, whilst navigating their innovative business model and an evolving work-place environment.
Their’s is a different kind of law firm, offering a central services model at the behest of lawyers & consultants to draw from. This allows partners to quickly up and down scale as required, and expedite legal administrative tasks without retaining their own junior staff.
Listening & Learning
We began with a series of online workshops and listening sessions. I met with the Juniors to hear their point of view away from senior management.
Creating a safe environment was crucial to ongoing success. This allowed me to hear frustrations, ideas for improvement, their perspectives on where senior management were and weren’t living up to expectations.
At this foundation stage, we established trust and created an impartial sounding board.
Development workshop
We then met, face to face as a group. I presented the largely negative, mistrusting and pessimistic words they had shared on the calls with me.
Hearing and seeing their words played back to them allowed the junior lawyers to consider whether this was a point of view that was helpful to their future success.
With calmness and patience we looked at their perceived reality and compared it to the expectations laid out by the firm upon their recruitment.
Approaching this work with honesty and trust. The workshop created a foundation from which we could begin to build.
A junior lawyer is at the behest of partners until they can create clients of their own, so their success is predicated on their ability to win and retain consistent work from partners, and eventually clients of their own.
My workshop offered the perspective of “becoming CEO of your own career” – building networks, being a sales person of your services. Taking charge of your career through building confidence, self-belief and a clear sales strategy.
The work empowered the juniors to take charge of their future and we paved the way for increased productivity and buy-in.
